    How Twinhoods works

Telling a friend from Istanbul about Amsterdam, you'd say “the Jordaan is a bit like Ortaköy.” Twinhoods does that for cities around the world.

Every neighbourhood has a profile of 17 traits, from nightlife and food to green and historic, plus how central it is. Each place in the city you're exploring gets the name of the closest match in your city. Every name is used once, so the whole map fits best; a leftover place can share a similar neighbour's name, or keeps its own.

Colours say what a place is most about (the list has the key). The number is how alike the two are: 100 is the same profile, a random pair scores about 45, and the map's fit is the average. ??? means nothing in your city comes close.

Shapes are drawn around each neighbourhood's heart and cut by water, not official boundaries. Profiles are impressions written with AI help and checked against OpenStreetMap: vibes, not facts, and not travel or safety advice. Something wrong or hurtful? hello@twinhoods.com
