Twinhoods is a free map that translates any city into yours: pick the city you know and the one you’re curious about, and every neighbourhood of the second gets the name of its closest match in the first. Everything you need to write about it is on this page.

The story
Arriving in a new city, everyone asks a local the same question: “so which part is like…?” Twinhoods answers it for the whole map at once. Tell it you know Istanbul and want to see Berlin, and Charlottenburg becomes Nişantaşı, Neukölln becomes Kadıköy and the Nikolaiviertel becomes Sultanahmet. Each of its 4,467 neighbourhoods in 180 cities has a profile of 17 traits, from nightlife and history to how green or how gritty it is, and Twinhoods pairs them so every name from your city is used once, the way a translator would. Tap a place and it tells you why: what the two have in common, where they differ and how alike they are. It works in the browser, costs nothing and needs no account, and new cities join through Add my city, a daily race where people back the city they want next.
About Twinhoods
Twinhoods (twinhoods.com) is a map that shows any city in the neighbourhood names of a city you already know. It covers 180 cities and 4,467 neighbourhoods on six continents, is free to use with no ads, accounts or tracking cookies, and grows through Add my city, where the most-backed city joins the map at each departure. Twinhoods is made by Kerem Özcan at Space Island Ltd, a small studio registered in England and Wales.

How it works
- Pick two cities. “I know” is your city, “Show me” is the one you’re curious about. The address is shareable: /istanbul/amsterdam shows Amsterdam translated into Istanbul.
- Every place is profiled. Each neighbourhood is scored on 17 traits (nightlife, creative, upscale, historic, waterside, LGBTQ+ and more) plus how central it is. Profiles are researched with AI help (Anthropic’s Claude), validated and checked against OpenStreetMap.
- The whole map is matched at once. Instead of giving every place its single closest twin, Twinhoods finds the pairing that fits the whole map best, each name from your city used once, and shows how alike each pair is as a “% same vibe”.
Add my city is a race to decide which city comes next: anyone can back a city that isn’t on the map yet with $5 to $1,000, and at each departure (at least once a day) the most-backed city is added; backers pay only if their city wins. Details in the FAQ.
